    Description

Vintage original 27x41 in. US one-sheet poster
from the popular 1940's crime drama,
    WICKED CITY
, released in 1949 and directed by
    François Villiers
. When his freighter pulls into Marseille, Canadian seaman Eric Martin falls in love with Dolores, a "cabaret girl" (American version of her prostitute in the French version) at the "Kitcat" Club, and she agrees to "wait" for him. Leaving to return to his ship, Eric is stabbed by two thieves, Aime and Victor, who take his money and papers and warn Dolorws to say nothing. He wakes up in a hospital, with his ship gone, and is unable to give the police any useful information. The cast includes Maria Montez, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Lilli Palmer, Marcel Dalio, and Pierre Bertin.
Released in the French-speaking Canadian provinces as
    Vengeance of Corsaire
, the artwork depicts a highly stylized image of Jean-Pierre Aumont making off with a flailing Maria Montez. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, this vintage original Canadian poster is in fine conditon with a Canadian censor stamp; several small punctures around the edges; corner pinholes, and light signs of wear on the center of the bottom edge. This poster most likely was stored folded for many years, as the bright red color has created a mirror image in a much light tone of the entire poster.
