I do not have a tape to test but the motor whirls when you press down the ff rev and play buttons. the issue I see is that the play, ff and rev buttons will not stay down when pressed. you have to hold them down for the motor to run but as soon as you let off it stops. maybe you have to have a tape in for that to work but dont know. sold as is
