The company refined and sold its own brand of gasoline and its formulation made it very popular with the relatively new sport of auto racing. It was decided to build a new, state-of-the art facility further south in what was called Hynes (though some sources referred to the site as being in the northern part of Long Beach). Before the mid-1920s, Hynes was an agricultural community, best known for years for its active sugar beet farming.
