This is AN ORIGINAL 1911 TELEGRAM TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE VERY FIRST NEW MEXICO REPUBLICAN PARTY CONVENTION!!! This is from WILLIAM H. POPE, who laments not being able to attend this first Republican convention because of a murder trial he was involved in. POPE himself was a TEXAS STATE SENATOR known as THE JIM CROW SENATOR! Earlier in his career he had authored the law that stipulated that Blacks and Whites must ride in separate railroad cars... This was sent from LAS VEGAS, NEW MEXICO to CLOVIS, NEW MEXICO!
