Description
Here is an original hand-drawn single panel Christmas card drawn in pen and ink and with red and green colors by noted artist Robert M. Becker, whose name appears in the bottom left corner of the card. It reads: Happiness in '42 Is my earnest wish for you! Depicted is Santa Claus handing over control of the State Capitol building 1942 to an ebullient Republican elephant with other happy elephants riding a Comptroller toy car, reading an Attorney General book and with a Liet. Gov. drumset. Another elephant toots a "New Trumpet 1942" golden horn and a Mrs. Elephant has her suitcase packed for Albany 1942. There is a giant "V" for Victory displayed on the Christmas tree. Notably, a Democrat, Erastus Corning the 2nd, won the mayorship of Albany in 1942 but Republicans Thomas E. Dewey, Wallace, Moore and Goldstein won the Lt. Gov., Comptroller & Attorney general positions. Wonderfully rendered, the card is in good condition with a blank reverse side. There are minor fold marks in the bottom & top left corners with light marks seen arond Santa's face. Still, this remains a great piece of NY Republican ephemera! Thanks for looking at this auction.
