*****FROM AN AMAZING LOCAL ESTATE COLLECTION*****
This huge hand fan is very unusual in that it is embroidered and hand-painted like the stitchery pictures done during the Victorian & Georgian eras.
Three upper class wealthy people dressed in finery are featured.  Their faces, necks and arms and clothing are beautifully hand- painted .  It looks as if the couple on the left are visiting the woman on the right perhaps because she has recently come out of mourning.  She is wearing a long black mourning necklace which really draws your attention  to her as a focal point.  The embroidered details such as the hair collars cuffs stocking and trim are all done in the most beautiful silk stitches.  Their hair looks thick & curly due to the abundance of thick stitches.
Genuine metallic gold thread is stitched onto the wide borders of the ladies dresses as well as onto their shoes and bodice. The gentleman's cuffs, coat edges, purse and shoes are also embroidered with the metallic gold thread, which although tarnished is still well worth mentioning.
The clothes look like they were made of the finest cherry red and wine colored velvet and are much more beautiful in person.   Their hair is pure white silk embroidery not yellow as shown in the photos.
The entire fan is made of the most beautiful floral/leaf cloth and black wood. The back of the fan is covered in a black satiny looking cloth. The fan still has its frail but intact black silk ribbon which hold the fan together.
Much more beautiful in real life!   Very large!
A rare, richly embroidered, painted antique hand fan!  Stunning!
