Fold-out 1963 Atlantic Imperial road map of the greater Miami area, printed more than 57 years ago.
The map opens to 18" x 33" and has great detail on old street and highway alignments, with cartography by Rand McNally.
The coverage area includes Hialeah, Coconut Grove, Virginia Key, Bal Harbour, Opa-Locka, Medley, Coral Gables, and Miami Beach.
The map locates the Graves Tract, between the Sunny Isles Causeway and N.E. 136th Street, and between U.S. 1 and the Intracoastal Waterway. This plot of land was designated for use by Interama, the Inter-American Center Authority, but the proposed center was never built.
This map was published by the Atlantic Refining Company in 1963 and is dated in the legend. The code number in the lower margin is 3-6072-4.
The artwork on the front shows a uniformed attendant next to an Imperial gas pump at an Atlantic service station.
On the back cover there's an ad for Atlantic's "Red Ball" guaranteed service, which promised free gas if the station attendant didn't clean your windshield and check your oil.
Condition:
There's an oil stain in the lower corner and along the bottom margin, but it does not intrude on the map detail. There are
no
