Description
This listing is for a letter addressed The Secretary of the Treasury. It is a recommendation for Charles Cook for a position with the Treasury. It is signed by what appears to be S F Philips but I cannot find out anything about who S F Philips is. That is all I know about this letter.Over the next few months I will be listing a collection of historical papers from Judge Charles A Cook of North Carolina. These papers are all from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Most of them are political papers. There are papers from many senators and representatives from that time period as well as a couple of governors. The papers mostly center around Judge Cook's attempt to get an appointment with the Treasury department. They are very interesting to read and connect how politics worked in the early days. Several reference (and are from) a Henry P Cheatham who was giving Judge Cook the impression he was supporting him but the letters from other politicians of the day were certainly calling his loyalty to Judge Cook in question. Seems like politics has always been politics!
At the time of listing there are over 50 pieces of documentation in this collection. If you would like to look at the who collection they are in my store under the category Judge Cook.
All papers will be put between several layers of cardboard in an attempt to make sure that they are not bent or damaged in shipping. They will also be insured.
